Attendance Policy

Lectures

Students are expected to attend every lecture.  Topics discussed in the lectures will expand on material covered in the required reading.  The exams will be based on this material.   Therefore, regular attendance is important for doing well in the course.  However, attendance will not be taken at every lecture and there is no automatic penalty assessed for absences.

Mid-term exams will be administered during lecture periods. No make-up exams will be given except under extreme circumstances.

Laboratory Sessions

Students are required to attend every laboratory as scheduled.  Failure to attend will result in a grade of zero for that laboratory experiment.  There will be no opportunity for conducting the experiment outside of the assigned class times.  For excused absences of labs, students will be assigned research papers to make-up the grade.

Excused Absences

Absences from exams or laboratory sessions will only be made for extreme circumstances. Students should notify the instructor prior to the missed class.  Excused absences for medical reasons will require documentation.
