Course Description:
Introduction to Psychology is a required course for all Psychology majors, regardless of their area of concentration. Further, it is the essential prerequisite to take any other course in Psychology.
For non-psychology majors, PSY101 represents a core social science (CS) option.
This course is the introduction to the broad discipline of Psychology. In a general sense, psychology is the scientific study of behavior and underlying mental processes in a wide variety of situations. The focus of this course is both normal and abnormal aspects of our everyday “psychology”. You will be introduced to each of the major fields of psychology (e.g. such as clinical, developmental, educational, biological, cognitive, and social), including their major theoretical focus, what they study, how they study it, and how they apply their work to the public.
