Details
Dr. Ahmed is a Physicist and Engineer by training. His specialty and interests lie broadly in the area of Nanophysics and Advanced Materials. Prior to joining academia and SUNY Buffalo State University in Fall 2018, Dr. Ahmed spent 7 years in high tech industry – Intel Corporation.
Dr. Ahmed's research group utilizes multiple computational nanophysics tools including Density Functional Theory (DFT), Molecular Dynamics (MD) and Ab Initio Molecular Dynamics (AIMD), as well as various AI methods including Machine Learning (ML) and Neural Networks (NN) on a wide portfolio of next generation technologies. These include Clean Energy (photovoltaics, batteries, supercapacitors), Semiconductors, Optoelectronics, various 2D and Magnetic Materials and lastly, Quantum Materials and Phenomena.
On the teaching side, while he teaches a wide variety of engineering courses, Dr. Ahmed has developed courses centering around Nanoscience, Computational Physics, and Machine Learning applied to Clean Energy and Device Physics.
Lastly, Dr. Ahmed is the Founder and Director of the Center for Integrated Studies in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, launched in May 2022. The main motif of the 'Nano Center', as it is called, is in tackling next generation technologies through a mature and holistic lens that includes science/engineering and technical investigations, economic viability analyses, and lastly – a deep understanding of ethical legal and social implications (ELSI).
