COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is an introduction to the concepts and characteristics of business
and its role in society. Major topics covered during the course are: management
functions, marketing, human resources management, financial management,
information systems, business ethics, and social responsibility of business.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
- Introduce students
to the range of activities involved in contemporary business.
- Provide an understanding
of business concepts and principles.
- Familiarize students
with major business areas including marketing, management, production,
human resources management, and finance.
- Describe the close
relationship between societal trends and business and the impact of
business on the quality of modern life.
- Develop skills in
analysis and solving of business problems.
- Discuss the importance
of ethics and social responsibility in the conduct of business affairs.

The required text for this course is:
Boone and Kurtz. Contemporary Business. 1997 edition.
ATTENDANCE POLICY:
Regular attendance is an expectation of this course. Students with no
more than two unexcused absences during the semester will receive ten
points toward the total points for the course. Students must take all
exams as scheduled. Make-up exams are permitted only in cases of documented
illness or family emergency.

Your grade for the course is based on examinations as follows:
First Examination = 70
Second Examination = 70
Third Examination = 70
Final Examination = 70 |
The lowest grade for the first three examinations will be dropped. All
students must take all examinations.
