There will be one midterm and a final exam. Written exams will be graded on their content and clarity. Clear and understandable proofs are critical in this course. No electronic devices will be allowed during in-class exams.

A Take-Home Midterm Exam will be sent to you via email on Friday, March 20. Due: Friday, April 3 at 1:00 pm in my office mailbox. Chapters 1, 2, and Sections 3.1–3.3.3. Review Problems
- I will compose a set of proofs for most of the review problems and send them to you via email.
- I will be in my office MW of next week from 11 to 1 to address any questions about the review problems.
4.1 Homework Assignment: 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10. Due Saturday, April 11.
Read Section 3.3.3
3.3.3 Homework Assignment: Problem 20 on page 69 of text. Due Saturday, April 18.
Read Section 3.4
3.4 Homework Assignment: 1, 6, 10, 11, 15, 16. Due: Due Saturday, May 2.
Take-home Final Exam sent to students on or before Monday May 4.

Advice for Success

Former students who have done well in this course recommend the following advice:

Attend every class!
Read the lecture notes and the text! Both are essential.
Start working on homework problems immediately! Do not wait until the night before the due date. Many problems require a lot of thinking.
Do not hesitate to see the instructor outside of class!
Ask questions! Feel free to ask questions about homework problems and about topics covered in class.
