Arctic Picture Exchange and Good Time....

Karen has invited us to her place to celebrate the Arctic Field Experience. We will gather at Karen's on August 9th (Friday) at 6:30 p.m. Bring a dish to pass. It is best if we all arrive around the same time so we can have a variety of foods and share our experiences. This is a great opportunity to share in a picture exchange. If you have digital images consider bringing a CD for dowloading and sharing. If you have regular prints bring your doubles to give away and/or prints so we can note those that individuals would like copies of. See you at Karen's.

Directions to Karen's

If coming from the south, take I-290 to I-990. Go north to the N. French road exit. Go west to NOCO and John's Pizza (Campbell Rd.). Make a right turn (north) onto Campbell and go 13.2 miles to the end at Warrens Corners United Methodist (little red brick) church on the right. You will see two top signs there (one quickly after the other). At the second stop sign turn left and go 0.6 miles west. Karen's is a red brick house on the left. It is across from a yellow house.

A draft of your research paper is due August 8th (Thursday). You can pick them up on August 12th (Monday). The final version of your research paper is due August 19th (Monday). Karen, Veryan, and I are available to help you with your papers.

Students from Buffalo State will travel to Baffin Island for a three week field experience in the Canadian Arctic. They will spend two weeks in Iqaluit, NWT and one week hiking in Auyuittuq National Park. The course emphasis is on place-based geography, studying the physical and cultural landscape of the Arctic. While in the Arctic, the Buffalo State students will work with faculty and students from Nunavet Arctic College. The students are preparing for the trip by studying Arctic Geography (a co-requisite course), communicating with students from Nunavut Arctic College by e-mail, and meeting regularly to learn specifics about their field experience (physical and cultural features of the area they will be travelling to, as well as packpacking and survival skills).
