Internship Duties:

1)  Special Events Intern
Intern will work with event staff on the signature fundraisers of the American Diabetes Association – the Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes and the Tour de Cure cycling event. The main focus of this internship will be on participant engagement and increasing the usage of our online tools and social media. This includes managing event websites, email blasts, fundraising incentives and data management.

Responsibilities:
* Assist with fulfillment of email calendar.
* Work with event participants to encourage the utilization of our online fundraising tools.
* Analyze and manage data from participant and donor reports.
* Create multiple email communications to current/past walkers and cyclists encouraging event participation, recruitment and fundraising.
* Collaborate on social media, publicity, marketing and communication efforts.
* Writing and posting blog posts/tweets/updates, etc.
* Tracking the growth and the impact of social media.
* Provide general support to Special Event staff as needed.

 2) Outreach, Marketing, and Social Media Coordination Intern:
This internship is intended for an individual interested in a career that requires client interaction along with the use of marketing and social media. This internship would be well suited for an organized highly motivated individual with excellent communication and people skills who is looking to take ownership of a project and gain valuable real world experience.

The intern that fills this position will work closely with the Tour de Cure staff lead and committees and be given training and information from previous years to work with in handling the outreach, marketing and social media coordination for the event. A Red Rider is someone with diabetes who rides in the Tour de Cure event. The ADA provides monthly activities for these individuals to attend in order to foster an environment of community. The intern selected for this role will work with the ADA staff lead to assist in the coordination of the Red Rider events and will occasionally attend the events.

Responsibilities:
-Intern is encouraged to attend the Tour de Cure and the Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes -Must be able to occasionally attend Tour de Cure and Marketing Committee Meetings
-Must be able to occasionally attend Red Rider events-Must prepare an Outreach, Marketing, and Social Media Status Update Report on a monthly basis to be shared with staff leads, committee members, and event chair
-Responsible for the posting of ADA approved Facebook and Twitter posts according to approved timeline
-Responsible for sending individual ADA approved messages to riders
-Responsible for adding the Tour de Cure to all local event listings and event calendars
-Responsible for reaching out to local running races requesting permission to promote the Tour de Cure event by providing marketing collateral for event goodie bags
-Responsible for securing commitments from community partners to post Red Rider displays in their offices, examples include doctors' offices, hospitals, clinics, etc.
-Responsible for mailing and dropping off Red Rider displays and marketing collateral as needed
-Responsible for creating content for press release and stories for dissemination to the media and possible publication
-Responsible for creating "Red Rider of the Month" content for email blasts, newsletters, and Facebook posts
-Responsible for creating additional content for newsletters and email blasts as determined by the Tour de Cure staff lead
-Responsible for creating day of event media kits
-Responsible for working in conjunction to staff lead in order to determine and coordinate media logistical day of event needs

Computer Knowledge Required: 

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Specific Skills Required:

Any travel expenses incurred by the intern, meaning gas and mileage and/or parking will be reimbursed with gas and mileage being reimbursed at the federally determined reimbursement rate.

* Excellent written and oral communications skills.
* Ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment, but can also handle independent projects.
* Must be able to multi-task and be extremely detail-oriented.
* Knowledge of social media – Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, blogs, etc.
* Familiarity with walk/cycling based pledge events is a plus.

 Note:
* Internship is based out of our Buffalo office.
* A minimum of 10 hours per week is required.
