Professor in Communication

SUNY Buffalo State

After a twenty-year career at SUNY Buffalo State, Louis Rera retired as an Associate Professor in Communication and the Television and Film Arts Program in January 2020. He had taught Introduction to Visual Communication, Basic Media Production, Writing for Broadcast, Advanced Post Production, Photojournalism, Producing Short Films I, Producing Short Films II, and TFA Senior Projects (Television Pilot development and production)

His student labs had worked with most of the Adobe Suite of Products, AVID Media Composer, Logic Pro X, Protool and an array of hardware and software. Lou configured and purchased the AVID ISIS Media Server, a network based media system for classroom and faculty workflow, and he was part of the team responsible for technology evaluation and upgrades for the department. He had taught and worked with full prodcution field equipment for video (film) and audio, thaking those experience through the entire post production phase.

Outside of teaching, Professor Rera was a student academic advisor and served on various committees for the department, the school of Arts & Humanities, and committees that serve the College administration and community as a whole. His research focused on the impact and use of social media in within the Communication Program.

He has editied texts for Bridgepoint Education and Oxford University Press. Lou is a member of the Horror Writers Association, The Just Buffalo Literary Center, Short Fiction Writers Guild,IMDB and the United University Professionals.

In rretirement, Lou Rera will continue his work as a horror fiction writer, playing and recording music for local theater groups, and he will continue his work with the HWA NYC based writer's group.
