Artist's Statement Mutual Understanding: Fleur The Fleur series I have created for the Mutual Understanding exhibition is a series that uses technology as a tool to creatively express the organic beauty of flora as well as using patterns to integrate silk painting and weave effects. The transition from hand techniques over to technology is a process that has slowly shifted over for me during the last fifteen years. For me, the computer is an ideal tool for integrating the best of intuitive and technically controlled creative expression as well as integrating a variety of fiber techniques. Weaving can easily be integrated with silk painting or tie dying using technology, the result is a combination of structured and non-structured fiber techniques within an image. Pattern is everywhere in our lives, most especially in nature. The computer enables an artist to create an endless variety and combinations of patterns to reflect the many patterns we all experience in our daily lives. The software used for this series was Adobe Illustrator® and Adobe Photoshop®. |
