Debby Schnitzer's example of Evaluating a DISCRETE GOAL: George will follow the rules of the house and reach level 4 freedom within 12 weeks.

1. In this workers opinion George has reached a minimally satisfactory achievement level of reaching his discrete goal "follow the rules of the house." For the most part it has become easier for George to follow house rules, as most have now become routine for George. George has basically resigned himself to the fact that he has to do what he is supposed to, no matter what he thinks of the rule.

2. George was a little surprised that the staff would be so positive and supportive in helping him get adjusted. He was also surprised that when he did have a bad week, they remained positive and supportive.

Criteria for Measuring Achievement on the Discrete Goal

The most favorable outcome for George would be to work up to a level 4 freedom within 6 weeks from the day he finishes Orientation Phase, the fastest time possible, and to maintain living at level 4 for his time at Harbour House. Coincidentally, this will be measured as a +4.

A very favorable outcome would be if George can reach level4 freedom within 8 weeks after orientation phase ends, and to maintain it for90% of his time at Harbour House. This will be recorded as +3.

The minimally satisfactory achievement level for George would be to reach the level 4 freedom within 12 weeks and to maintain it for 75% of the time he resides at Harbour House; +2.

A less than satisfactory outcome would be if George never reached the level 4 of freedom and remained at a level 3 or less; +1.

The no change outcome would be if George never left the orientation phase of freedom; 0.

A less than no change outcome would be if George was not able to maintain living at the orientation phase and was removed from the program; -1.

5. The most effective parts of the intervention were the behavioral and environmental tasks done by the staff to help George learn the routine. The least effective part of the intervention involved George getting along with housemates. There was a period of time when an older resident and George were trying to out do each other with pranks. These led to full scale fighting. The other resident instigated many of the fights that George got into at the residence; since this person's removal, George has been doing better.)
